About
Heavy Breathing is an interactive project developed under the theme of living objects exploring the responsive potentials of furniture.
Concept
Heavy Breathing takes the form of an interactive lamp stimulated by environmental resonance. It analyses the ambience for amplitude levels and expresses itself through abstract communication.
Inspired by sentient behavior, the lamp is a simulation of the human lungs and its cyclic respirative loop. Drawing from the repertoire of possible somatic reactions, its current form has three possible states which constantly shift with its environment.
Design
Fabricated by hand, the assemblage is painstakingly constructed and assembled out of paper for precision.
An array of 54 LED bulbs populate the three light valves making up the principle illuminant. A sound sensor is situated at the apex acting as ears. Input and output is controlled by a microprocessor where calculations are done and processed through constant updates.
